Gulmarg will host the third edition of Khelo India Winter Games

Srinagar: Gulmarg in Kashmir is all set to host the Khelo India winter edition. This is the northern region of the valley. More than 1,500 sportspersons will participate in the tournament, which will begin on February 10. Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha recently launched the 3rd Khelo India National Winter Games Anthem, Emblem and Jersey. She said at the event that she is happy that Gulmarg has become a ‘sports city’.

The concept of Winter Games was implemented in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution in 2019. The first edition of the Khelo India Winter Games was held in Leh and Gulmarg in February and March 2020. This was the first sports event of its kind in India.

Khelo India Winter Games is organized to promote winter sports which include skiing and alpine skiing. The main objective of the Winter Games was to popularize the sports of Nordic skiing, snow rugby, ice stock sports, snow baseball, mountain climbing, snowshoe running, ice hockey, figure skating and speed skating among the youth across the country.
