in the last days. According to the US National Weather Service (NWS), the temperature in the US can reach -79°C.
Among the regions that would be being punished by the low temperatures are Mount Washington, in New Hampshire, where the cold wind can reach this record low. In the cities of Boston and Worcester, schools were closed on Friday.
If the US reaches -79°C, it will be the lowest recorded temperature in the Northern Hemisphere.
Here are the lowest temperatures ever recorded in the world:
Antártica, Estacion Vostok – Located close to the South Pole, it has average temperatures of minus 56 degrees. The lowest occurred on July 21, 1983, with thermometers reading -89.2°C.
Russia, Siberia – In the Russian region of Yakutia, Siberia, the village of Oymyakon reached -71.2°C in 1926, the lowest temperature recorded in the Northern Hemisphere. The average in the region is minus 50 degrees.
Canada, Snag – In a village in the west, the thermometers read -63°C, caused by the cold air of the Pacific Ocean. The record happened in 1947.
