Huge rush of tourists to board the Kolumban boat prepared by the forest department to take a ride in the Idukki water body. Kolumban is a boat that can carry 20 people. The ticket price is Rs 145 for adults and Rs 85 for children for a half-hour ride around Idukki Dam on a Kolumbaan boat.
There is an opportunity to travel on this boat 365 days a year. Around 5400 people took a boat ride in Idukki backwaters last December and January. An income of Rs 3.47 lakh was also received in this breed. It is also possible to provide regular employment to four natives in connection with boating.
During the times when tourists are not allowed to visit the Idukki Dam, the Kolumpan of the Forest Department will be waiting for the travelers at Vellapara. The forest department says that if the number of tourists falls below 20, there will be a loss. They are demanding that one more boat capable of carrying 10 passengers should be allowed to run short services when the number of passengers decreases.
