Benjamin Bonzi is struggling to assume his new status as French N.1: the 42nd in the world was beaten in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier by the Italian Lorenzo Sonego, winner 6-3, 6-4 in one hour , Tuesday.
Bonzi lost his service from the start in this game, to be trailing 2-0. He conceded again at 5-3 and thus offered the first set to Sonego, 53rd in the world.
The Italian then managed a new break at 5-4 in the second set, to win 7-5, 6-4, on his first match point, from a winning passing while Bonzi had come up to the net.
