Volodymyr Zelensky expected in UK
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak there, Downing Street announced. “Leaders will discuss a two-pronged approach to British support for Ukraine, starting with an immediate increase in deliveries of military equipment to help counter Russia’s spring offensive, and bolstering it with long-term support »the British government said in a statement.
Rishi Sunak also counts, it is specified, “offer to strengthen the UK’s training offer for Ukrainian troops, including extending it to fighter pilots to ensure Ukraine can defend its airspace in the future. This training will enable pilots to be able to fly sophisticated combat aircraft meeting NATO standards”.
This is the first time that Volodymyr Zelensky has left Ukrainian territory since his visit to Washington on December 21 for a few hours. He was then received at the White House by Joe Biden, and spoke to Congress.
Rishi Sunak’s government will also introduce new sanctions later today against individuals who helped Russian President Vladimir Putin “build personal wealth, and businesses that profit from the Kremlin’s war machine”. For the British Prime Minister, “President Zelensky’s visit to the UK is a testament to his country’s courage, determination and struggle and a testament to the unwavering friendship between our two countries.”
