Oppression of Women in Afghanistan; Criticized by the UN Secretary General

by time news

Kabul: UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres strongly criticized the violence against women in Afghanistan. He said that women are struggling with the restrictions imposed by the Taliban and are being denied their rights, including education. Guterres also said that the Taliban regime is trampling on the basic rights of Afghan women and girls. He also criticized that it is very deplorable that they have to live as refugees in their own country.

The explanation given by the Taliban is that the Afghan government is moving forward by upholding the rights of women. The justification of Taliban spokesperson Sabiullah Mujahid is that they are protecting the rights of women in Islam and the international community should recognize this.

Women’s rights have been encroached upon since the Taliban took over. When they came to power, they said that women’s freedom and children’s rights would be a priority, but the Taliban later took the position of blowing the promises. The Taliban banned women from universities and NGOs. Girls were expelled from schools and denied education. The UN Secretary General came against this.
