Helicopter rescue in Île-de-France: reinforcements under discussion for the 2024 Olympics

by time news

In a year and a half, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will significantly increase the population present in Île-de-France. The Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (OCOG) predicts for the whole of France a potential of 13.4 million admissions, a good part of which will be present in Île-de-France. The question of aerial means to quickly evacuate sick or injured athletes or spectators from positioned competition sites obviously arises.

For the boss of Samu 77, François Dolveck, it will be “important to be able to better cover the territory” in terms of air rescue. While waiting for the return of the second civil security device or, better, the delivery of a brand new red and gold helicopter, a solution could be looming on the side of the Samu.

“No major influx into hospitals”

“We could have a second helicopter under our contract with our private service provider who would rent us a second machine,” says Éric Lecarpentier, the boss of Samu 94. “It’s being discussed with the regional agency health. We are lucky to have the listening of our guardianship, ”he adds, not very worried by the profile of visitors to the Olympics. “These competitions generally attract young and healthy people. Feedback from previous Olympic Games, especially those in London in 2012, did not show any major influx into hospitals! »

The Olympic Games Organizing Committee assures that “according to the Paris 2024 medical rescue manager, there will be two Civil Security helicopters in 2024 and possible support from the Samu helicopter”.
