German astronomers announced the discovery of a planet similar to Earth, about 31 light-years away from it.

Scientists from the Max Planx Institute for Astronomy in Germany named the discovered planet Wolf 1069 b, and indicated that its size is close to the size of Earth, and that it revolves around its star, according to a distance that would allow the presence of liquid water.

Scientists and academics with astronomical experience suggest that the discovered planet is outside the solar system, that it has an atmosphere and a magnetic field, and that day and night alternate as well.

The new planet is an example of many planets discovered near Earth, but astronomers have decided to know more of its details, by the need to search more accurately for its geography, and that it may take ten years of research about it to know its exact nature.

For this reason, a large telescope is being developed in Chile, five times larger than the largest astronomical telescope that is currently being used to accurately explore the new planet, as astronomers are working on developing a telescope that can discover and distinguish the components of Earth-like planets and determine the specifications of their atmosphere.

And the US space agency, NASA, announced last year that there are more than five thousand Earth-like planets outside the solar system, but the number of planets that bear specifications identical to Earth in terms of alternating night and day does not exceed six only.

It is scientifically known that Earth is the third planet in the solar system away from the sun after Mercury and Venus, and Earth is considered one of the largest terrestrial planets and the fifth largest planet in the solar system, in terms of its diameter, mass and density.
