New Delhi: Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri explained that if the international crude oil price increases, the gas cylinder price in India is likely to increase.

DMK MP Kalanidhi raised a question in the Lok Sabha that due to the continuous increase in the price of gas cylinders, it has caused a great impact on the lives of poor people.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s reply to the question:

* 14.2 kg and 5 kg cooking gas cylinders are currently being sold across the country.

* A total of 816.28 crore gas cylinders have been distributed across the country from the last financial year 2017-2022.

Out of this (814.82 crore gas cylinders weighing 14.2 kg and 1.46 crore cylinders weighing 5 kg. A total of 64.53 crore cylinders have been supplied in Tamil Nadu.

* As on February 1, 2023, the price of a cooking gas gas cylinder is Rs. 1053 for sale.

* India imports 60% of cooking gases. While it was US$ 454 per metric ton, it has increased to US$ 693 in the last financial year 2021-2022. It is likely to increase further in the coming days.

* If the international LPG price increases, the gas cylinder price in India is likely to increase. Oil companies are already facing losses. The central government has decided to allocate Rs 22 thousand crores to repair this loss.

* Even after the increase in the contract price of the gas cylinder, the price of the household cylinder has been increased by a very small amount. This was explained by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
