Nagpur: After a good start in the first innings of the first Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India lost the wicket of KL Rahul on day one. Rahul returned with 20 runs off 71 balls. Rahul scored only one boundary. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma added 76 runs for the first wicket. Rohit, who played aggressively from the first over, did not like Rahul losing his wicket at all.

Chasing the Aussies’ first innings score of 177, KL Rahul returned with a return catch to debutant spinner Todd Murphy. Rahul’s return was on the fifth ball of the 23rd over of the Indian innings. When Rahul got out, Rohit Sharma was seen on camera holding his head high and expressing deep disappointment. These videos have already gone viral. When stumps were taken on the first day, India were 77-1 in 24 overs. Rohit scored 56 runs off 69 balls and Ravichandran Ashwin did not open his account at the crease. Team India sent Ashwin as the night watchman to avoid losing more wickets on the first day.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets, Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj each bowled out the visitors for 177 runs in 63.5 overs. Only four Aussie batsmen reached double figures. Openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja were dismissed with one run each and the top scorer for the visitors was Marnes Labuschein who came to the crease at third and scored 49 runs off 123 balls. Steve Smith returned with 37 off 107 balls, Peyton Handscomb 31 off 84 balls and Alex Carey 36 off 33 balls.
