Sriharikota: India has successfully launched its indigenously developed Short Range Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLVD2). The SSLV was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 9.18 am. The probe’s second mission took place today.
SSLV launched three satellites namely Earth observation satellite-02 (EOS-07), American satellite Janus 1 and ‘AzadiSat 2’, a satellite built by ‘Space Kids India’ student team.
The first mission of SSLV on August 7, 2022 failed due to a technical glitch. Although the first three stages of the launch were successful, the signal was lost. ISRO states that the problems have been resolved this time.
The first short-range satellite launch rocket was built after the PSLV and GSLV missions. These are used to launch satellites into low Earth orbit. It can place small satellites weighing between 10 and 500 kg into an orbit 450 km below Earth.
SSLV is 34 meters long. 10 meters less than PSLV. The circumference is two meters. The spacecraft is designed to advance commercial missions. ISRO’s assessment is that the demand for launching small satellites will come in search of SSLV due to its low cost compared to other countries.
