The decline in the weekly incidence of Covid in Italy continues but the RT rises. This is what emerges from the weekly monitoring of the Higher Institute of Health (ISS) and the Ministry of Health. As regards the incidence, the national figure drops to 52 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (February 3-9) from the previous value of 58 per 100,000 inhabitants (January 27-February 2).
“In the period 25-31 January 2023, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.73 (range 0.64-0.91), an increase compared to the previous week”, when it was 0.68, “but below the epidemic threshold” of 1 “even in the upper range”, according to what was also reported by the Higher Institute of Health.
The transmissibility index based on cases with hospitalization also remains below 1, but is slightly up on the figure for the previous week: the value is 0.85 (0.80-0.89) as at 31 January 2023 against the figure of 0.78 (0.74-0.83) calculated as at 24 January.
The number of Covid hospitalized in intensive care and in ordinary wards of hospitals in Italy is still falling. As regards the employment rate in intensive care, there was a slight drop to 1.6% (according to the daily survey of the Ministry of Health as of February 9), compared to the previous value of 1.8% (as of February 2). The employment rate in medical areas nationwide fell to 5.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 9 February) against 5.8% in the previous week (on 2 February).
Two high risk regions, 7 moderate and 12 low
The regions classified as high risk for Covid due to multiple resilience alerts rise to 2 this week, reports the Higher Institute of Health on the basis of the main data from the monitoring of the ISS-Ministry of Health control room. Seven regions/autonomous provinces are at moderate risk (pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 30 April 2020), and 12 are classified as low risk.
Finally, the monitoring shows that 10 regions/autonomous provinces report at least one resilience alert, while 6 report multiple resilience alerts.
