If the tax is not paid after that, it is ‘sealed’. Even if the shopkeepers do not pay the rent in the commercial premises owned by the corporation, the sealing action is taken.

Commissioner Pratap inspected the commercial complex in the 70th Ward, Flower Market area of ​​the Corporation yesterday.

Seeing that the perimeter wall of the commercial complex had been demolished without permission, he ordered the police department to take appropriate action.

He ordered to seal the shops of defaulters.

One shop was closed and sealed for non-payment of rent for the offense of demolishing the perimeter wall without permission.

Similarly, a team headed by Zonal Assistant Revenue Officer Karthikeyan went to the ‘Cheran Towers’ commercial complex on Govt Art College Road.

Zonal Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Kanagaraj said that the property tax arrears of Rs 1 crore, 25 lakhs are owed by the mall management. As the amount was not paid, they tried to completely close and seal the commercial premises.

The mall owners said that some of the shops in the complex have been sold and the owners have to pay the tax.

‘The owners of the sold shops have not been renamed till date. There is property tax pending in the name of Cheran Towers.

The corporation officials said that the cases in this regard are not under investigation and closed and sealed the shops.

It is noteworthy that ‘Cheran Towers’ commercial complex is owned by former MP – KC Palaniswami.
