The Port of Tarragona is committed to sustainable economic transformation

The Tarragona Port Authority (Spain) is committed to sustainable economic transformation, in order to lead the maritime sector. In a meeting with various economic managers from the Tierras del Ebro, the president of the port, Saül Garreta, highlighted his commitment to the economic transformation of the territory.

In this sense, the decarbonization projects of the logistics and maritime activity of the port area will be key to achieving this purpose. Another need that must be covered is for companies to adapt to the requirements of the European Union to reduce carbon emissions by 55% by the year 2030.

In his presentation “Port of Tarragona, towards economic sustainability”, Garreta has detailed other actions of the future strategy of the Port Authority, among which are decision-making, traffic diversification, recruitment of the general quarry, the promotion of intermodality and investment in railway infrastructures.

Of all these measures, Garreta highlighted the construction of the Guadalajara-Marchamalo PortTarragona Terminal, 60 km from Madrid, and the expansion and modernization of the Boella PortTarragona Terminal.

On the other hand, the Port of Tarragona has made progress in the construction project of the West breakwater by starting the environmental impact study for public information. Through this resource, it is possible to submit allegations or recommendations to the initiative for 30 business days.
