Tirupur: PF has been ordered to conduct an investigation by the enforcement department in companies that have not paid the scheme contribution.

ESI, – PF has been made mandatory for the workers of knitting, compacting and knitting industries in Tirupur, Avinasi and Palladam area.

Garment companies have to pay ESI and PF amount along with their contribution by deducting from the salary of the worker. Last year, the entire knitwear industry was affected due to sharp rise in wool prices.

As the production of knitwear did not take place as usual, employment in various sectors decreased. As a result, it has been reported that Tirupur-based knitting and knitting companies have not withheld and paid the PF amount for the past few months.

As an essential grace period, up to two or three months, the P.F. amount will be paid. However, more than during the Corona period, there has been a glitch in the payment of PF contributions.

Due to this, PF, Enforcement Division officers have been ordered to conduct an inspection of pending companies and take action.

Enforcement Division is in action

Workers’ Provident Fund (PF) officials said, “In Tirupur division, 2.83 lakh workers have joined the PF scheme. In total, more than 5,000 companies have registered.

Last year, as the banyan industry was affected by the increase in nul prices, there were complaints that PF was not paid in 20 percent of the accounts. Following this, we are conducting company-wise inspection through enforcement officers.

If the PF is outstanding, action will be taken to collect the balance from the concerned bank account,” he said.

ESI, Scheme Benefit

ESI officials said, ‘In Tirupur, there has been a delay in the payment of dues of small Banyan companies and workers.

As far as the ESI scheme is concerned, no matter how many workers are registered in an organization, the contribution amount is sufficient to cover the number of workers coming to work.

On the basis of labor working days, ESI and scheme benefits will be available,’ they said.
