The Justice of São Paulo determined the attachment of a property that Ciro Gomes (PDT) received from his mother in Sobral, Ceará. The intention is to guarantee the payment of compensation for moral damages to the councilor of São Paulo Fernando Holiday (Republicans). The former minister may appeal the decision.
Judge Lígia Dal Colletto Bueno, from the 1st Special Civil Court of the capital, asked for an appraisal of the property by at least three real estate brokers to define the value of the property.
In 2018, Ciro called Holiday a “little captain of the bush” in a sabbath on Jovem Pan radio. Soon after, the councilor released a note in which he said he had interpreted the statement as a racial slur and that the conversation with Ciro would be “in court”.
“You imagine this Fernando Holiday, a little captain from the bush. The worst thing there is is a black person who is used by prejudice to stigmatize. There is not the slightest chance of us overcoming these contradictions without violating certain principles”, stated Ciro at the time.
In 2019, Ciro was sentenced in the 1st instance by the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ) to pay R$ 38,000 in compensation to Holiday. In 2020, TJ also determined that a Ciro Gomes car was pawned for the same reasons. The current amount of compensation is R$ 98,700, according to the councilor’s defense.
