A three-day official visit to reinforce cooperation between the two countries, in a context of tensions with the West.

Ebrahim Raïssi was received by Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, who, according to local television CCTV, reaffirmed his “solidarity” with Tehran.

Faced with the complex situation triggered by the evolution of the world, the times and history, China and Iran support each other through their solidarity and cooperation.

Ebrahim Raïssi was accompanied by a large economic and commercial delegation.

In 2021, Beijing signed a vast 25-year strategic agreement with Tehran, an enemy of the United States, the target of heavy sanctions that stifle the economy of the Islamic republic.

The two countries face Western pressure over their stance on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In addition, Iran is the target of US sanctions due to its nuclear program.

Xi Jinping told Ebrahim Raïssi that China supports Iran “in maintaining its national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and its national dignity”.

The Chinese leader added that he stands by the Islamic country in “resisting intimidation and opposing external forces that interfere in Iran’s internal affairs and jeopardize its security and stability”.

Regarding the Iranian nuclear dossier, the Chinese president guarantees that he will continue to “support Iran in the defense of its legitimate rights and interests”.

The two states signed several bilateral cooperation documents in the fields of agriculture, trade, tourism, environmental protection, health, disaster relief, culture and sport, according to CCTV.
