A rise in bird flu or H5N1 infections in Britain and around the world has caused concern among experts. While its effects on animals have been confirmed, experts fear that the risk of transmission to humans is imminent.
Bird flu has so far been confirmed in foxes, otters and mink. Meanwhile, it has been reported that bird flu has been confirmed for 4 otters in Scotland.
Also, since bird flu has now spread to animals, its transformation can be dangerous for humanity and 50% of humanity is at risk of total extinction, the World Organization for Animal Health has pointed out.
Risk to humans and spread
As bird flu has been confirmed in mammals, the risk of it spreading to other animals and humans is high, they say.

In the case of the UK, it is considered a high bird flu watch zone. The eastern part of Britain has been found to have the highest incidence of bird flu.
Since bird flu was identified in 1997, 50% of the 900 people infected have died without treatment. Since October 2021, only one case of bird flu has been confirmed in Britain.
