Apple is drawing inspiration from James Bond to design a hidden camera in the upcoming Apple Watch. The tech giant has patented a camera attached to the bracelet, allowing the wearable to rotate or detach to take a photo and make video calls.

According to the British Daily Mail website, the system will contain a unique strap that attaches the watch to a magnet, allowing it to be removed and reconnected easily.

The potential Apple design mimics the watch Bond wore in 1983’s Octopussy, but even so patent ideas don’t always translate into real-world technologies.

And in the 1983 movie, Octopussy, the spy has a watch with a camera that allows him to video chat with Margaret Thatcher and check in on the Bond girls.

Apple’s technology will allow users to take photos and make video calls, and the patent, which was first spotted by Patently Apple, was registered by Apple in March 2019, but was granted in February 2023.

The document states that the design could include “a watch band that has a first strap section, a second strap section, an overlapping part installed between the first strap section and the second strap section, and a slot that extends, where the camera is located on the back of the wearable.”
