Virudhunagar: Lorry owners have demanded that the online fine system for heavy vehicles be scrapped in Virudhunagar district.

Thanapal, a member of the Virudhunagar District Truck Owners Association, said:

Online fines are levied for heavy vehicles and all vehicles used by people including cars, two-wheelers for traffic violations.

Various errors occur in this. When the vehicles are parked on the roadside, petrol bulk etc., the vehicle registration numbers are recorded and the fine is imposed as a general offense without registering the offence.

A lorry driver is fined for not wearing a helmet and a two-wheeler driver is not wearing a seatbelt for contradictory reasons. Trucks are forced to pay the fine amount in bulk while getting quarterly tax, permit and qualification certificate. Due to this the lorry owners are suffering a lot.

There is no alternative opinion that there should be fines for violating traffic rules. But truck owners are affected by the online chaos. Therefore, if the driver makes a mistake by stopping the lorry as before, he should get his signature and impose a fine, he said.
