At La France insoumise, two meetings, a cold war

by time news

Their separate ways. The internal crisis within La France insoumise (LFI), born of the reorganization of the management, resurfaced in the midst of pension reform, with two meetings organized Thursday, February 16 in the evening by the movement.

In Bobigny, in Seine-Saint-Denis, five “rebellious” deputies, François Ruffin, Clémentine Autain, Alexis Corbière, Eric Coquerel and Raquel Garrido, will make their voices heard, at 7 p.m., on the stage of the Departmental Labor Exchange, to oppose the government’s reform plan to raise the legal retirement age to 64. At their side are announced several elected representatives of the union of the left: Boris Vallaud, of the Socialist Party (PS), Fabien Gay, of the Communist Party (PCF) and Sabrina Sebaihi, of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV). A meeting stamped New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) like so many others, except that it brings together on the same platform the five figures of LFI who challenged their absence from the new leadership of the party, in December 2022.

At the last moment, Jean-Luc Mélenchon decided not to let these slingers take all the light. At the same time, 750 kilometers away, the leader of the “rebellious” will be in Montpellier to challenge the government bill in front of several hundred people. An event designed around his person, organized by three faithful, local deputies Nathalie Oziol, Sylvain Carrière and Sébastien Rome.

” Lockdown “

Officially, no question of discussing internal problems by public meeting interposed. “For the moment, the challenge is to unite in the battle for pensions”assures the elected representative of Seine-Saint-Denis, Clémentine Autain, promising not to “seek no confrontation”. “It’s our way of showing that we can do useful things in the fight”corroborates his colleague Alexis Corbière. “So much the better if there are meetings the same evening, there would be ten that would do even better”, approves the deputy of the Rhône Gabriel Amard, member of the management and close to Mr. Mélenchon. “I prefer the current configuration to that of the start”confirms the parliamentarian of Loire-Atlantique Matthias Tavel, another faithful, in reference to the Nupes format finally adopted in Bobigny, while at the start only the five deputies in question were on the bill.

As for Mr. Mélenchon’s decision to speak the same evening, the calendar constraints (it is the penultimate day of the debates on pensions in the National Assembly) invoked by his relatives leave his opponents cold. “Jean-Luc Mélenchon seems to have the desire for a form of face-to-face meeting that is not desirable in the context”we loveme Autain, judging the attitude of the founder of the nature movement “neither to appease nor to gather”.
