CHENNAI: Not a single permanent staff member has been appointed to AIIMS Madurai Hospital so far. Only 8 persons have been appointed on contractual basis.

On February 28, 2015, the Central Government announced that AIIMS Hospital would be set up in Tamil Nadu. After various tug-of-wars, Madurai Dhoppur was selected in 2018 to set up the hospital. On January 27, 2019, Prime Minister Modi came to Madurai and laid the foundation stone of AIIMS Hospital. However, the construction work for AIIMS Hospital has not yet started.

In this case, a heated debate was held between Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia and DMK MPs in the Lok Sabha a few days ago regarding the Madurai AIIMS issue. Following this, Minister M. Subramanian, who gave an answer in this regard, said that the Japanese company has informed that the construction work of Madurai AIIMS will start at the end of 2024 and will be completed in 2028.

Currently admissions are going on at Madurai AIIMS Hospital and classes are going on at Ramanathapuram Medical College. In this case, it has been revealed that not a single permanent employee has been appointed to Madurai AIIMS Hospital. Recently, this has been revealed in the Union Minister of State’s reply to a question raised by 3 members of the Lok Sabha regarding AIIMS Hospital.

According to this, 183 teaching posts and 32 non-teaching posts have been allotted to Madurai AIIMS Hospital. In this, not a single person has been permanently appointed to the teaching posts. Only 8 people are working on contract basis. No one has been appointed to non-teaching posts even on contractual basis. All 32 posts are vacant.
