According to this, in the year 2021-22, among the most loss-making airports in the country, Chennai ranks first with a loss of Rs 189.85 crore. In the previous financial year, it had made a loss of Rs 278.63 crore.

Last January, 12,380 flights arrived at Chennai airport. 17 lakh people have traveled in this.

In this case, it is planned to increase the number of passengers to 5.5 crore by 2024 and operate 65 flights per hour.

All the airports in Tamil Nadu are running at a loss. Coimbatore Airport is operating at a loss of Rs 28.51 crore, Madurai Rs 41.20 crore, Salem Rs 5.61 crore, Trichy Rs 19.17 crore and Tuticorin Airport Rs 13.97 crore. Puducherry Airport is operating at a loss of Rs 12.36 crore.
