The Paris Stock Exchange is doing well. Very good, even, with a historic record for its flagship index. Driven by the good results of the major French groups, the CAC 40 reached 7,387.29 points on Thursday February 16, the best closing since the previous record of January 5, 2022. The strongest increases go to the companies that published this update their results, such as Orange or Airbus. And it’s the same euphoria on most stock markets.
Since January 1, the American Nasdaq has gained 15%, the Frankfurt Dax 12%, the Eurostoxx has risen by 13% and a half, and the CAC 40 has soared by 14%.
However, just five months ago, the markets displayed the greatest pessimism, fearing a global recession caused by the tightening of the screws by the major central banks.
The restrictions around monetary policies accompanied by the rise in interest rates to curb inflation ultimately did not have the repercussions feared by investors.
What restore confidence to the markets, especially as the forecasts of some analysts, especially for Europe and France, are positive.
Same euphoria on the side of the big French groups. The weakness of the euro and the reopening of China benefit exports.
The luxury sector posted exceptional performances. LVMH achieved the best year in its history with a 21% surge in its value. Since the start of the year, L’Oréal, Hermès and even Kering have all been on the rise.
Industry, with Airbus, Renault, but also services with Publicis and BNP Paribas, are in the ranking of the strongest increases in the CAC 40.
