With a deficit of 17.9 billion euros, the electrician enters the Top 3 of sad records, alongside Vivendi (23.3 billion euros loss in 2002) and France Telecoms (20.7 billion , also in 2002). Two decades that we had not seen that. As for the debt, it reached 64.5 billion euros.

Trapped between heavy investments to be made – extension of the nuclear fleet, construction of the first EPRs at Flamanville and Hinckley Point -, average economic performance and the payment of substantial dividends, EDF has accumulated considerable debt over the years. But the public company remained profitable. This was no longer the case in 2022. The situation is all the more paradoxical since energy companies as a whole have benefited from the rise in electricity, gas or oil prices. But not EDF, literally…
