In Auvergne, the resort of Lioran, less expensive than those in the Alps, is also accessible by train. A ski lift has been installed from the station, and travelers benefit from attractive prices.

Friday, February 17, the 13 Hours goes skiing. Challenge: reach the tracks without using the car. At Clermont-Ferrand station (Puy-de-Dôme), 120 km from the Lioran station (Cantal), travelers can take their ski pass with their train ticket. The day costs 51 euros instead of 85. It takes a 1h51 journey by TER to arrive at the Lioran station, at 1,152 meters above sea level. Quentin, Joseph and Pierre-Louis, high school students, take the train because they don’t have a permit: “The schedules correspond well, we arrive right for the opening of the slopes at 9am”observes one of them.

Attractive measures

Everything is done for skiers: the station looks like a locker room, and as soon as you leave, a lift is available to access the slopes. A unique device in Europe. Alternatively, travelers can take the bus to rent their skis. Price: 35 euros per day, with a 20% discount for those who have taken the train.
