Boxing: Estelle Mossely retains her world belt

Nearly a year after her last outing as a professional, IBO lightweight champion Estelle Mossely retained her belt by beating Malawian Anisha Basheel on points on Friday in Paris. The Frenchwoman, who organized the fight herself with her promoter’s license, Salle Wagram in the 17th arrondissement, won after ten rounds by unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91, 99-91) .

The 2016 Olympic champion’s last fight was in March 2022 in Dubai when she beat Argentina’s Yanina del Carmen Lescano on points. With this success against Basheel, ranked 18th in the IBO, the 30-year-old French boxer remains undefeated with now 11 victories in 11 fights among the pros.

In parallel with her professional career, Estelle Mossely has embarked on the race for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris where she will aim for a second title after that of Rio in 2016. An ultimate challenge which began with a race for qualification. After dismissing Rima Ayadi (BAM Les Mureaux) on points on February 3 in Saint-Quentin (Aisne), Estelle Mossely thus qualified for the European Games (June 21 to July 2, Krakow, Poland), the first qualifying event for Paris 2024.
