Janny about stimuli: the nose

by time news

And the podcast Janny about incentives from Omroep MAX and NPO 1, Janny van der Heijden investigates how we are influenced daily in our eating habits. Every day we make about 200 food choices: consciously and unconsciously. The food industry, supermarkets and advertisements also play a useful role in this. All our senses are put to work. How are we tempted to make (un)healthy choices every day? And how can you use this stimulation to make healthy choices? In 5 episodes, 5 senses are discussed. In this episode: the nose.

Sense 2: the nose

In the 2nd episode, Janny focuses on the nose and the scent temptations we face daily. We may not always be aware that smell is one of the most important parts of our sense of taste. An attractive air is aphrodisiac.

How do those scent stimuli work? Janny goes looking for answers. She does this with good acquaintances such as flavor professor Peter Klosse and chef Niven Kunz. In addition, also with behavioral scientist Roel Hermans. And also researcher Coosje Dijkstra and internist, endocrinologist and professor of obesity Liesbeth van Rossum.

Smell and taste

Fellow culinary journalist Joke Boon tells us what it’s like not being able to smell and taste. Writer and columnist Hassnae Bouazza shares memories of scents from her childhood, in the colorful markets of Morocco.
