Puducherry,-Southern Raid team on vintage Yashti and Java bikes in Puducherry to promote road awareness.

Mangalore-based Srinivasan and Rajendran created a group on the social networking site Facebook out of their love for the legendary motorcycles Yashti and Java Bike.

Owners of similar model bikes have also joined this group. All of them are from Chennai, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Mangalore, Vijayawada, Annuar, Hyderabad, Salem, Tirupur.

People in this group named it Southern Raid. Currently 82 people including two women have joined this group. Once a year they create road safety awareness among the general public and spend it effectively on their traditional bike ride.

This Southern Raid Team gathered together at 10.30 am yesterday in front of Puducherry Nuaradi Road, Natesan Nagar. Then everyone wore helmets and started the road safety awareness drive. Transport Inspector (North) Muthukumar inaugurated the trip. Sub-Inspectors Kesavan and Arumugam were present.

These Southern Raiders passed ECR Shivaji Statue, Ajanta Signal, Anna Road and reached Naradi Road again. Then, having completed their journey, they set out on Auro. The people of Puducherry watched their journey on their old model bikes with interest.
