Ex Maccabi Tel Aviv, Alan Anderson, was sentenced to two years in prison, the US prosecutor announced. The reason: his and Keon Doling’s part, another former NBA player, in defrauding the health and welfare program of the best league in the world. Doling himself was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

The story that implicated Anderson exploded in October 2021, when Anderson and 17 other former players were arrested after trying to fraudulently withdraw about four million dollars from insurance. The former actor was accused of filing $121,000 in false claims for himself and also recruiting others into the scheme at a total cost of $710,000.

Dowling himself, formerly the vice president of the players union, was arrested in April 2022 as part of the affair after he was accused of receiving $363,000 in the same way. He was also accused of embezzling $194,000 in profits for other players. In addition to their prison sentences, the two were also ordered to return the fraudulently obtained funds and pay restitution. Anderson will have to pay back $121,000 and pay an equal amount in restitution.
