Drinking water is being distributed to Kurichi-Kuniyamuthur areas of Kurichi-Kuniyamuthur area through Kurichi-Kuniyamuthur joint drinking water project from Azhiyar near Pollachi. Under this drinking water project, iron pipes are laid underground from Athu Pollachi to Kuniyamuthur to transport drinking water.
They mostly run along the Coimbatore-Pollachi four-lane highway. Also, 24 hours uninterrupted electricity is being provided to this joint drinking water project.
Pipe rupture
In this situation, due to sudden power outage, the pipes of Kurichi-Kuniyamuthur Joint Water Project are breaking here and there. Yesterday at 6.30 am, a joint drinking water project pipe suddenly ruptured near Murugesan’s house in Valvail Cheran Nagar area of Kovilpalayam.
Then the pipe broke and the drinking water came out. As a result, drinking water poured like a waterfall on the roadside. The drinking water was stagnant like a pond on the Coimbatore-Pollachi four-lane highway. Due to this, motorists suffered a lot.

The Kurichi-Kuniyamuthur joint drinking water project officials were informed about this. After this, water supply was stopped. After that, the officials of the Drainage Board removed the drinking water from the pipe and started repairing the breach. While the Kinathukadavu area was suffering from severe heat, the public was worried when they saw that the pipe broke and the drinking water was wasted on the road.
Officials of the Drinking Water and Drainage Board say that there is a possibility that the pipe may have cracked and broken due to air pressure. All the drinking water in the pipe has been drained out and work is underway to repair the breach. Once this work is completed, drinking water will be distributed to Kinathukkadavu, Kurichi and Kuniyamuthur areas again, he said.
