‘There’s Nothing New in the West’ wins seven Bafta film awards

German director Edward Berger’s “Nothing New in the West” was nominated 14 times for the British film awards, winning seven prizes. It also won Best British Film for The Banshees of Inisherin, and Best Actor and Actress for Austin Butler and Cate Blanchett.

The Irish tragic comedy The Banshees of Inisherin received four awards including Best British Film. The film, which was shot in Ireland and mainly starred Irish actors, beat “Everything Everywhere All at Once”; Both films went into the ceremony, which took place in London’s Royal Festival Hall in the presence of heir apparent Prince William and his wife Kate, with ten nominations each.

“Nothing New in the West” was the first non-English-language film to enter the running with 14 nominations. Also, since 2001’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, no film has received as many nominations.

Actor Richard Grant hosted the show. Referring to the incident at last year’s Oscars, when Will Smith punched comedian Chris Rock in the face, he said, “No one under my supervision will be slapped today except on the shoulder (tapped).”
