The municipality of Rio registered an average of 91.52% of rooms booked by the hotel chain for Carnival, in the period from February 18 to 21, according to data from ABIH (Brazilian Hotel Industry Association) and Hotéis Rio.

In the south zone, the region of Ipanema and Leblon (95.88%) was the most sought after, followed by Flamengo and Botafogo (91.91%). Afterwards, Leme and Copacabana appear (91.19%). The survey also showed data from the Barra da Tijuca and São Conrado areas (91.04%), in addition to the center (90.49%).

The president of Hotéis Rio, Alfredo Lopes, commented on the visitors’ profile. “As happened on New Year’s Eve 2022/2023, the percentage of foreigners has increased and should be around 35%, especially North Americans and Argentines, followed by French and Chileans. Among domestic tourists, residents of São Paulo and Minas Gerais Gerais are the majority, but Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Distrito Federal, Goiás and Rio de Janeiro also have a significant participation”.

In the interior of the state, the registered average was 92.65% of the rooms booked in the period from February 18th to 22nd. The municipality of Arraial do Cabo, in the Lagos Region, leads the ranking with 100% occupancy.

More visitors are expected to arrive through the port of Rio. At Pier Mauá alone, the expectation is to receive 27,000 tourists on seven transatlantic ships, between the 18th and 21st. Three of them are international, one of which is debuting at the terminal.

The season should be the biggest in the last 10 years, according to the Brazilian Association of Cruise Ships, with a movement of R$ 14 million in the economy of Rio de Janeiro.
