The deadline for submitting the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr) to the EU Commission expires on 30 April. The plan is necessary to access the funds made available by Brussels through Next Generation Eu: the 750 billion euro package. The NRR is worth a total of 221.5 billion, of which 191.5 from the EU and 30 billion from a complementary fund. The plan is structured in six missions: areas of intervention through reforms and investments: about 22% of the funds, equal to 42.5 billion, are allocated to the digital transformation of the country. This includes projects for the digitization of the public administration, ultra-broadband and the adoption of innovative technologies. Italy will invest 30%, about 57 billion, in circular economy and waste management and renewable sources also through bureaucratic simplification. The plan will commit 25.3 billion (about 13%) on high speed, but also on the upgrading of regional railway lines. 17% of resources will go to education and research, equal to 31.9 billion. The plan includes investments in crèches and educational infrastructures. 19.1 billion (about 10%) are foreseen for inclusion and cohesion through participation in the labor market. The plan allocates 15.6 billion (about 8%) to strengthen health services in the area, to modernize and digitize the hospital system. To unblock the country and resume growth, Italy will have to make some reforms that have been asked of it by Brussels for decades.
