Washing the car is more than a mere vanity of showing it shining around. Washing protects the bodywork from pollution, dirt and also paintwork and plastics. With the increase in costs in recent years, many people choose to wash their car at home. Here are some simplified steps to wash your car using little water and minimal equipment:

Prepare clean water (hose or bucket), very soft microfiber cloth, neutral detergent and soft sponge. Clean the car interior by removing unnecessary items: packaging, bags and other items. And before starting all this leave the car in the shade, never under the sun.
With a hose or bucket, wet the bodywork and then with neutral soap and water (common detergent, never washing powder), use a soft sponge to gently scrub the surface starting with the roof, then the hood and trunk, finally the sides and the wheels, in that order. Rinse the parts as soon as you soap, preventing the soap from sticking and staining the painting. Leave the wheels last and take advantage of the water that ran from the bodywork to scrub the wheels well with soap. Rinse afterwards.
Use a soft microfiber cloth to dry the car. Do not use flannels or thick fiber cloths that can scratch. Microfiber makes the job easier and can be easily bought in supermarkets and stores nowadays.
After the end of the wash, it is worth applying a wax to protect the bodywork, especially in Brazil where the incidence of sunlight is very strong. Liquid waxes must be applied with a dry sponge and then removed with a clean and dry microfiber. Always apply in separate parts and remove afterwards. Inside, it is possible to use a vacuum cleaner, avoiding going over the plastics, which could scratch the vehicle’s finish. The same damp cloth used for drying can be used to remove internal dust.
