England: Heung-min Son still victim of racist insults, Tottenham protests

by time news

Racism has struck again around the football pitches. Heung-min Son, the South Korean international striker for Spurs, was insulted during Tottenham’s match against West Ham on Sunday in the Premier League. A new case after Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid), Samuel Umtiti (Lecce) or Ivan Toney (Brentford) in recent weeks. During the game, won 2-0 by Tottenham, Son was attacked on social media and his club reported the incidents asking the authorities to take action. Second scorer of the match, the South Korean was the victim of hate messages.

“We have been made aware of the utterly reprehensible online racist abuse directed at Heung-min Son during today’s (Sunday) game, which has been reported by the club. We stand with Sonny and once again call on social media companies and the authorities to take action,” the London club wrote in a statement.

Already targeted by racist insults last August, during a Championship match on the lawn of Chelsea, Son has therefore again suffered heinous attacks. The author of the insults last August had been identified and then suspended for life from entering Stamford Bridge by the Blues. Now, Tottenham are calling for new sanctions after the messages over the weekend.
