Depression is a common mental disorder around the world. Some people rarely know that its symptoms and treatment method differ from one patient to another, depending on the type.

1- severe depression

This type of depression lasts for a week, during which the patient suffers from a set of disturbing symptoms, such as weight loss or gain, inability to sleep, fatigue, anxiety, tension, lack of interest in daily activities, and poor concentration.

2- Persistent depression

If the patient remains depressed for two years or more, this means that he suffers from persistent depression, especially if he feels low energy, change in appetite and hopelessness, in addition to sleep disturbances.

3- Seasonal depression

We usually get this type of depression with the change of seasons, specifically in the winter, and the reason is due to a lack of vitamin D in the body, which leads to mood swings, anxiety and stress.

The treatment consists in exposure to sunlight daily for a period of 15 to 30 minutes, along with taking antidepressants under the supervision of a doctor in severe cases.

4- Postpartum depression

Some women experience severe depression several weeks or months after childbirth, and its symptoms include “crying, anxiety and tension”, and it can be treated by taking antidepressants under the supervision of a doctor, with the need for the mother to obtain moral support from those around her, especially the husband.

5- Menstrual depression

Before menstruation, women suffer from a type of depression known as “menstrual depression”, which causes mood swings, anxiety, poor concentration and sleep disturbances.

But this depression quickly disappears after menstruation ends, but if its symptoms are severe, there is no objection to obtaining antidepressants or birth control pills under the supervision of a doctor.
