Within the framework of the surprise visits that the Minister of Health, José Rúales, to various health establishments in Santa Elena and Guayas to verify their operation during the Carnival holiday; This February 21, 2023, he went to two hospitals in the city of Guayaquil.

The first point was the University Hospital of Guayaquil (HUG) where he verified the start of the works to clean up the surgical center and the neonatal intensive care unit. Also the air conditioning system.
“With the authorization of these areas, the health home will have 87 maternity beds, 60 places in the neonatal intensive care unit and five operating rooms. On March 6, the high-risk obstetric service will be activated, with an increase from 20 to 42 beds,” said Ruales.

Within the HUG, it is planned to implement a day hospital, which will have two operating rooms to carry out minor interventions and a type III laboratory.
Additionally, an area will be integrated to provide the dialysis service, which will have 38 positions for patients who need it, 35 for hemodialysis and three for peritoneal.
The health authority also went to the Dr. José Daniel Rodríguez Maridueña Infectious Diseases Hospital, where it reviewed the emergency area and the intensive care unit, which will enter a process of expanding their services.
This hospital will also improve its air conditioning and piping system, both for sewage and rainwater.

Regarding the supply of medicines and supplies, the Minister of Health commented that 88.57% has been managed; which will arrive at the end of February, and which will cover the demand for three and ten months, and others for almost all of 2023.
In both hospital entities, Minister José Rúales congratulated the doctors on their day. He also gave them a gift in recognition of their dedication to service and dedication to their patients.
