Salangai Oli, directed by K. Vishwanath and starring Kamal Haasan and Jayaprada, hit the screens in 1983 and won the National Award. Jayasudha, who was a leading heroine in the Tamil and Telugu film industry at that time, shared her memories of Malarum, who missed out on the opportunity to act in this film.
In an interview given by Jayasudha, “He first signed me to play the female lead in ‘Salangai Oli’ directed by K. Vishwanath. He also gave me advance money. But Kamal Haasan did not give a date immediately and the shooting started late. By then I had started acting in NT Rama Rao’s film.
Due to this I returned the advance amount to K. Viswanath saying that I will not be able to act in ‘Salangai Oli’. K. Viswanath got angry with me because I returned the advance. He didn’t talk to me for long days.
It is good that I did not act in ‘Salangai Oli’. Because my friend actress Jayaprada was the perfect choice for the role. Jayaprada’s amazing performance in that film earned him name and fame.”
