Genaro García Luna’s lawyer: We disagree, but we respect

Cesar de Castrohead of the defense of the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna, indicated that he disagreed with the jury’s verdict on the guilt of his client, but reiterated his respect.

In his first statements upon leaving the Brooklyn Court, García Luna’s lawyer asserted that It is a difficult time for the former Mexican officialbut that the fight to “clear his name” will continue.

“We are extremely disappointed with today’s verdict, after many years of building Mr. García Luna’s case, gathering reliable evidence, the government was forced to resolve a case with criminals who testified in this court,” he said.

De Castro stressed that García Luna and his family trusted the process.

“We are very disappointed, but we respect the jury’s decision. This is very difficult for Mr. García Luna and his fight will continue to clear his good name,” the litigant reiterated.

The lawyer asked for respect to his family, but affirmed that it is a difficult moment for the “super policeman” of Felipe Calderón.

“This is a very difficult time for him, and we ask that you respect his and his family’s privacy until such time as they are ready to talk.”
