STORY – The ambitious “Putin’s cook” has become a cumbersome rival for the military institution, which, with the backing of the Kremlin, is trying to block his way.

Yevgueni Prigogine, the leader of the mercenaries of the “Wagner” paramilitary group, is fighting two battles: in Ukraine, in Bakhmout, where his mercenaries have been trying for months to take this locality in Donbass from the forces of Kiev, which has become a symbolic stake; in Moscow, then, where a ferocious fight pits him against the general staff and the Ministry of Defence.
