The multidisciplinary artist, researcher and performer Alexia Sayago has been selected by OTHERNESS Curated Program of Art Madrid’23 to participate in this edition with his performance Where I write from. The appointment will be on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Crystal Gallery of the Palacio de Cibeles.
Where I write from is a project that focuses on the tensions that exist between individual and collective thought. Both in the performance like in the danza it is the clash between the movement engine of the artist and that of the public that generates a richness that adds to or defines the discipline itself. Starting from reading The public of garcia lorcaI address, raise and discuss this conflict, since I think it is reflected and the relationship between the figure of branches and the figure of rattles in the second painting can be taken as a case study. Showing how the characters build their movement from the movement of the other, I exemplify how the bodies generate a relationship of interdependence where they are addressed simultaneously by the voice of the first person singular and the first person plural.
This dynamic structures a series of conflicts which, being in turn crossed by daily contingencies that cannot be left aside, propose moral positions and spaces through which to find small shared places where to be a body, where to exercise desire, where to follow the movement. In addition, Where I write from uses as a means and as an end to raise the notion of showmanship applied to performance and image, the need for a material transformation to modify the conceptual and thus be able to find a new voice, be it more sincere, kinder or more common.
