The heart that stopped for three hours started beating and the one and a half year old came to life

The entire staff of a hospital worked together to revive a one-and-a-half-year-old boy who froze to death. The smile of this one-and-a-half-year-old is the hard work they put in despite not being sure of success.

On January 24th, Wylan Saunders, a one-and-a-half-year-old boy, fell into a frozen backyard swimming pool at daycare and had to lie in the pool for five minutes.

The baby was lying face down in the swimming pool. The child was in the swimming pool for five seconds. By the time rescue workers rescued the baby from the swimming pool and brought it to the Karlothe Eleanor Iglehart Hospital in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada, the baby had already frozen to death. There was no heartbeat.

In this hospital, there were no big facilities to treat babies. But that day, everyone from nurses to lab technicians stopped their work to save the baby. For three hours each of them took turns to give the baby CPR.

A group of people were giving CPR to the baby. By various means they warmed his frozen body.’ -London Health Science Center Pediatric Care Unit Director Dr. Jhansi Thijsen said.

When the boy’s temperature started to rise to 28 degrees Celsius, there was hope that they could save him. At that time, the critical care team from London traveled to Petrolia and continued CPR on the baby while transferring him back to the critical care unit.

A large group stood for him. Realizing that his body organs were starting to work, he gave all necessary help. Then slowly he was allowed to wake up. He opened his eyes and smiled beyond all expectations.

Wylan is currently in an incubator with ventilator support. The instability of the organs is being resolved.

We tried so hard to keep him alive. So we will do whatever it takes to get him back to full health. – Thijsen said.

“That medical team is a part of my heart and I will be grateful and indebted to them for the rest of my life,” Wylan’s mother said.
