“Gottabhaya Rajapaksa should not have fled the country but should have held parliamentary elections while still in office through a special resolution”

Gotabaya Rajapaksa decided to give the post of Prime Minister to Sajith Premata but he said the above while answering a question raised by a southern media that why Sajith did not get it.
Rule by popular mandate
He continued to reply,
“Sajith Premadasa wanted to assume the power that comes through the people’s mandate, how can he be the Prime Minister under his rule when the entire country is against quota.
Kota should have dissolved Parliament and held parliamentary elections through a special circular.
If he had done so, he would not have had to leave office and run away from the country.
If the elections were held and Sajith had won, he would have taken charge of the government,” said Laxman Kiriella.
