In order to expand the emergency area and the intensive care unit (ICU), the Dr. José Daniel Rodríguez Maridueña Infectious Diseases Hospital of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) began the process of conducting relevant studies for adjustments during the 2023.

The strengthening is planned in response to the needs of patients and the demand for health services as it is a reference hospital for the care of infectious diseases, which include HIV/AIDS, as well as respiratory pathologies, including tuberculosis and/or diseases vector like dengue.

The expansion of services will allow the areas to have a greater number of beds. In the case of an emergency, they will go from six to eleven and the intensive care unit (ICU) from six to nine.

Likewise, they will have isolation cubicles to provide personalized care, which represents greater biosecurity for healthcare personnel and for patients in critical clinical condition or with complications from fungal, viral and microbacterial infections.

The health home also plans to improve the air conditioning system for hospitalization, general storage, pharmacy, laboratory, ICU, among other areas. Also the plumbing system for sewage and rainwater.

During 2022, this establishment treated 43,622 patients for external consultation and 13,486 for emergencies. The changes are expected to increase the number of beneficiaries.

The Ministry of Public Health works hard to strengthen the services of its medical entities on a national scale.
