Differences and lack of trust are obstacles for clubs to unite for a soccer league – 02/23/2023 – Sports

Anyone who only looks at the numbers will believe that the difference between the two proposals for the founding of a soccer club league in Brazil is not that great. In that sense, the offerings are similar.

But some elements hide divergences that could mean that Brazil, from 2025, has two different blocks of broadcasting rights instead of a unified league.

Libra brings together 18 teams from Brazil’s Serie A and B and has Mubadala, an investment group, willing to invest R$ 4.8 billion in the two main divisions.

The LFF (Liga Forte Futebol), which brings together 26 other clubs, announced an agreement with Life Capital Partners and Serengeti Asset Management for an investment of R$ 4.85 billion.

There is also a deep lack of trust between the two negotiating blocs.

LFF directors believe that Libra wants to keep earning more than others.

For its part, Libra is suspicious of LFF’s deal with Life Capital and Serengeti, considering it a ploy to put banks and other companies into trading with Mubadala.
