Salamanca will host the II Spanish Week in November

by time news

The event, whose first edition was held in Madrid, will bring together some 500 professionals from a sector that is still seeking to recover from the ravages it suffered during the covid-19 pandemic with the lack of arrivals of international students.

The mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, has estimated the number of Spanish students that Salamanca receives per year at 30,000, and has asked the central government for more European funds to “promote activities” around Spanish.

Likewise, it has called for “more resources” to “give content” to the new headquarters of the International Center for Spanish in the building of the old Bank of Spain, which is not yet ready for operation and is waiting to define its program.

“We have very important projects and we do not appreciate enough commitment from the Government to send these funds,” said the mayor of Salamanca, the Spanish city “with the most accredited Spanish schools” in proportion to its size.

Spanish Week is organized by the Spanish Federation of Schools of Spanish as a Foreign Language (FEDELE), which has 19 affiliated centers in Castilla y León: 15 in Salamanca and one in Burgos, Valladolid, Ávila and Soria. The goal is to have at least one in each province.

The event, which will have a previous digital part between November 13 and 15, will bring together some 500 participants, including language and tourist agencies, federated centers, foreigners, students, teachers and management teams.
