“The golfers” on Netflix: a mess for the eyes and the mind, which brings back memories of Seinfeld

by time news

I know almost nothing about the game of golf except that you have to thread the ball into the hole. I don’t know anyone who plays golf, except for Yoram Arbel, Tiger Woods and Kramer. Jerry, George and Elaine are not interested in golf, which will not prevent them – in a convoluted chain of events for those who remember – from going to prison.

The eight-episode series “The Golfers” follows some of the elite golfers in the United States and Europe. To an Israeli viewer, the names of the players are almost unknown. It is not about following one game, not even a series of games in the same tournament, but two players in each episode, when the two play in different tournaments. There are no permanent heroes, you don’t see the ball at all. There is no sports drama that passes to the viewer, there is a mess in the eyes and in the mind. There is nothing to talk about a binge at all. Continuous hours of mess can undermine even a person in Nirvana.

And yet I found a bright spot, even if it was a single one, in the three episodes I watched until I broke down. While watching, my thoughts wandered to that day when Kramer went to make a living, that is, to play golf on the beach, and what to do, not a stream of great successes. And George, in his false profession as a marine biologist sent to save a dying whale, found Kramer’s golf ball in his nostril, saved the huge mammal, returned to shore a hero, got two slaps from the girl and went home on the bus. Golf after all can be a wonderful game.
