Bearish dominance continues in the stock market

The last trading day of this week, Friday, continued to bear dominance as the stock markets closed negative for the 6th day in a row. The Sensex closed 141.87 points lower and the Nifty 45.45 points lower.

Investors were cautious as the US Federal Reserve raised interest rates to curb rising inflation.

Also, the stock trading on Friday ended negatively as foreign investors were involved in the sale of shares in large quantities and the investors showed intensity in selling the shares of HDFC and HDFC Banks, the stock trading brokerages said.

Sensex down 142 points: The BSE Sensex opened higher at 59,859.48 in Friday’s trade, after settling at 59,605.80 in the previous trading day. The Sensex, which hovered between a high of 59,908.77 and a low of 59,325.34, ended 141.87 points (0.24 per cent) lower at 59,463.93.

Out of the 30-stock Sensex index, 14 were gainers and 16 were losers.

Asian Paints Volatility: Shares of popular paint maker Asian Paints topped the gainers chart with a gain of 1.20 percent. Apart from this, stocks of companies including Bajaj Finsav (0.84 per cent), NTPC (0.83 per cent), Powergrid (0.82 per cent), Reliance (0.77 per cent) and Axis Bank (0.70 per cent) also gained.

M&M declines: One of the leading auto makers, M&M, was the top loser in the list with its stock falling 2.50 percent. Apart from this, stocks of Tata Steel (1.88 per cent), Tata Motors (1.27 per cent), L&T (1.20 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (0.98 per cent) and HDFC Bank (0.93 per cent) also suffered losses.

Nifty down 45 points: The national stock market index Nifty opened at 17,591.35 at a high of 17,599.75, dropped to a low of 17,421.80 and finally settled down 45.45 points at 17,465.80.

26 stocks gained on Nifty index comprising 50 companies; 24 suffered a loss.
