New Building Code to Protect Buildings from Earthquake in Saudi

Jeddah (25 Feb 2023): A new building code has come into effect in Saudi Arabia. Officials have said that engineering offices in the construction sector will have to follow the new rules.

The new change has been made as part of strengthening earthquake prevention measures.

Municipalities have asked Saudi engineering offices to compulsorily adhere to earthquake prevention rules when preparing plans and designs for new construction projects.

It is mandatory for engineering firms to comply with these conditions before applying for a license to construct buildings. Officials said that earthquake prevention is very important in the country and strict punitive action will be taken against those who do not follow the procedures.
